Overview

The Division of Speech Pathology and Audiology at Duke University Medical Center provides a comprehensive, full range of assessment, diagnostic, treatment, consultative, and educational services to patients presenting with speech, language, hearing, cognitive, and swallowing disorders.
 
The Division staff consists of  25 speech pathologists, 10 audiologists, a rehabilitation engineer, a coordinator of research and development, an information technology specialist, a systems programmer, and 12 support personnel. All speech pathologists and audiologists provide care based on competency-based credentials and level of expertise. All clinical staff have either a doctoral or master's degree in Speech Pathology or Audiology from an accredited college or university; are licensed by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists; and hold, or are working towards, the Certificate of Clinical Competence in speech pathology or audiology from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association.
 
The Division of Speech Pathology and Audiology is fortunate to have a wide variety of instrumentation and test batteries to assist in providing state-of-the-art evaluation and management of patients withspeech, language, hearing, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Staff pride themselves in their collaboration with medical staff, allied health professionals, administration, and all other staff, in addition to the patient and family to meet the needs of those served.
